601 Delaware — the first instance (worked example)
601 Delaware — the first instance (worked example)
Boundary note. 601 Delaware is the soma — the single, specific, irreplaceable first instance of the category. Per the repo’s load-bearing soma/dendrite rule, this page cites by link and does not reproduce any building-specific history, neighborhood, or planning detail. It restates only the general-level characterization the canon already makes. For everything specific, go to the soma repo.
What it is
The first Industrial Nonprofit: a 1932 industrial building in San Antonio being transformed into a cultural factory — it makes beverages, trains tradespeople, and runs a working production floor, held in a nonprofit structure with no exit and a sixty-year horizon.
It is the worked example, not the definition. Another building, in another city, making other things, held the same way, would be the same category.
Where the detail lives (soma repo, by link)
The full planning record — specific to that building, that neighborhood, and that history — lives in its own repo and is the place to see the category instantiated in detail:
On this folder
instances/ is for real-world instances of the category — the worked
examples every general claim links back to. 601 Delaware is the first, and the
soma. Further instances, as other builders adopt the form, belong here too
(each a dendrite — linked, never reproduced).
